The internet is widely spread nowadays. At home, at work we spend a lot of time in the World Wide Web. How much time do children spend there? It is generally agreed today that they surf the Net all day long. I consider it to be a great problem.
The first thing that needs to be said is the Internet has a harmful effect on children’s brains. Most of them stop thinking because they are sure that the necessary answer will be found immediately. They use muscles, not brains typing a message.
The second reason for not wasting time on the Internet is cruelty. Some online games destroy a gentle child’s soul, substitute social norms of behavior. Children forget about reality. They live in their computers, they do not pay any attention to what is happening around them.
We should, nevertheless, consider the problem from another angle. On the Internet a child can get more information than somewhere else. A child can use wed sites of universities, libraries. The Internet helps to find some rare books.
Nevertheless, we should admit that availability of information makes children lazy. They do not see necessity to remember anything.
The arguments we have presented prove that children shouldn’t spend much time in the Internet. I’m not against the Internet but children must understand what for they use the World Wide Web.
