Some people think that only those who have much in common can become friends. Others believe that it is not important for mates to share similar interests and tastes. It seems to me that friendship between different people is possible.
First of all, friendly relations should be based on trust, readiness to help and respect. Mates’ tastes in music, life attitudes and hobbies may not coincide. Nevertheless, friends can spend time together and feel comfortable. There are a lot of examples of such relations described in books, films and cartoons: Winnie-the Pooh and Piglet, Timon and Pumba. Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson. Secondly, it is interesting to learn something new from a mate whose life views differ from one’s. Thirdly, time passes and people change. Their life views may transform, hobbies and favourite musical groups can be forgotten. But good friendship will be kept between mates.
The opponents of this view can say that friends who do not share similar attitude to music, sport or hobbies, they easily get bored with each other. Differences in interests and boredom may cause misunderstanding that can lead to the breakoff.
However, when friendship is based on respect to each other’s pastimes, mates will find some topic that can be interesting for both of them. Sometimes a friendly support is more important than shared hobbies.
In conclusion, friendship between people who do not have much in common is possible if it is based on trust, support and respect to each other’s values.
